Court Appointed Independent Monitor for the Cedars-Sinai & Huntington Hospital Affiliation
On January 12, 2022, the California Superior court approved the California Attorney General, Cedars-Sinai Health System, and Huntington Hospital’s selection of BRG Managing Director Frank Stevens individually, and BRG as the firm, to serve as the court-appointed independent monitor overseeing compliance of the settlement regarding the affiliation between Cedars-Sinai and Huntington Hospital.
Role of the Monitor
The approval of Huntington Hospital’s affiliation with Cedars-Sinai, effective as of August 4 2021, included specific Competitive Impact Conditions. The Independent Monitor is responsible for monitoring compliance with the Conditions, accepting and investigating complaints filed by payers, and issuing an annual report to the California Attorney General.

Payer Complaints
The Monitor is responsible for investigating and issuing a report and recommendation on all complaints filed by payers either directly with the Monitor or filed with the California Attorney General. Protective Order
On September 6, 2022, the Monitor’s Protective and Stipulated Order was approved by the Superior Court of the State of California. Under this Protective and Stipulated Order, Payers are required to sign this Protective Order to take advantage of its express confidentiality protections when a Payer submits complaints or other information to the Monitor in connection with the Competitive Impact Conditions. The Monitor makes recommendations to the California Attorney General and to the Court concerning enforcement of the Competitive Impact Conditions.
